A lecture series on the state of the performing arts of Germany and Austria.
March – May 2012, various venues, Rijeka, Croatia
First lecture: 29.03.2012
place: Foyer of HNK Theatre, first floor, Uljarska 1, 51000 Rijeka
admission free, lecture in English
The theatre scene in the German speaking countries is one of the liveliest and most influential these days. It attracts and absorbs many artists and professionals from all over the world and produces aesthetics that are as diverse as enthralling. A theatre concept where stage setting, acting/bodywork or music are equally important as the text, transcends the genres and defies any classical categorisation. We invited theatre makers, theorists and journalists to give a wider perspective on the current developments. Rijeka’s ZOOM Festival in early September 2012 will showcase selected performances from Austria and Germany.
Our first lecturer is Thomas Frank, founder and artistic director of brut Wien theatre, Vienna.
Before founding brut, Thomas Frank worked as artistic director and head of programming at Sophiensaele Berlin and as dramatic adviser and curator at Künstlerhaus MOUSONTRUM in Frankfurt, lectured about independent theatre, published various books and produced several national and international performances. Since 2007, he successfully runs brut Wien (together with Haiko Pfost), and managed to establish this interdisciplinary production centre for performing arts in Vienna as one of the most innovative and acclaimed places.
The lecture will be held in English. We invite you have a discussion with Thomas Frank after the presentation.
