Mia Štark i Gabriel Hensche _ manjaWorkshop leaders, Mia Štark & Gabriel Hensche

As a continuation of the exhibition Games We Follow, Games We Create by the artist Petra Mrša, on Saturday, March 23rd, from 3 to 5 PM, a workshop titled The Game Gone Wrong will take place in the large hall of Filodrammatica. The workshop will be led by multimedia artists Mia Štark and Gabriel Hensche.

This workshop is free of charge and welcomes participants of all ages, from 6 to 99, who are proficient in Croatian or English. No prior experience in playing or camping is required, although if you have a tent, we encourage you to bring it along.

Apply by sending an email to: petra@drugo-more.hr

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:

Have you ever found yourself in a game that isn’t fun for everyone playing it? Wondering how to modify the rules to ensure everyone can enjoy it once again? And what can we learn from games about ourselves, others and the complex systems we inhabit?

Join us for a hands-on workshop where we explore how to change rules in pursuit of new ways to play together using playground games and camping gear.

We’ll kick things off with familiar childhood movement games to loosen up, become more responsive, and be present. Next, we’ll set out on a collective adventure to reimagine the experience of camping, using commonly accessible camping equipment to construct a communal cave. We will delve into the concept of a “Well-Played Game” (Bernard de Koven) and create a space for play, collective imagination, and togetherness.

If you enjoy games, camping, and a bit of talking, this workshop is for you.

While we can simply build and play for the fun of it, there’s also an opportunity to learn something about possible connections between a badly-played game and a badly-lived life or conversely a well-played game and a well-lived life. So, come play with us. Let’s build a safe tent cave, and explore the possibilities that arise when we dare to play with the rules.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP LEADERS:

Mia Štark

Mia Štark is a multimedia artist, and her work extends from performance and dance to video, drawings and printmaking. Within the last few years her work is about many different absurd occurrences in everyday life: what we see, what we do not see, what we respect and what we don’t respect, and whether we find beauty or laughter in small things, or we are passive bystanders. She graduated from the Academy of Arts and Culture in Osijek, and further shaped the development of her artistic identity at the undergraduate studies at the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb at the Department of Contemporary Dance. She develops and perfects her affinities through collaboration with other artists (Public in private, Yun Collectiv, Urška Medved, Nastja Štefanić Kralj, Dora Kokolj, Damir Bralić). In 2022/2023, she was one of the six selected artists at the Forecast Festival in Berlin. She participated as a performer in Tomo Savić-Gecan’s work “Untitled (Croatian Pavilion)” performed at the Venice Biennale in 2022. She is active on the scene inside and outside Croatia.

Gabriel Hensche

Gabriel Hensche is an artist living in Berlin. He works with moving images, performance, and constructed situations that explore possibilities for community and co-existence in the face of current technological developments. He collectively creates exercises, rituals, and games with other artists sharing the belief that the play can be a destabilizing action that loosens the social code and potentially revivifies habituated, reflex-tending forms of life. As Managing Director, he helped establish Campus Gegenwart at the State University of Music and Performing Arts, Stuttgart (DE) from 2017 to 2022. Since 2023, he is part of the leadership team of the School of Commons at the Zurich University of the Arts (CH), and oversees its peer learning program. His work has been presented offline and online in museums, biennials, galleries, film festivals, residencies and public spaces.
