From June 15th until June 21st, Centar za mirovne studije (Centre for Peace Studies) is organizing the second Refugees Week in cooperation with its partners, with the series of events in Rijeka, Kutina and Zagreb that question the position of refugees in regard to their acceptance from the Croatian society, creating intercultural relations through the medium of culinary exchange.

As part of Refleks program, on Wednesday (June 17th) at Youth Cultural Centre Palach in Rijeka, Drugo more will host an exhibition about the Okus doma (The Flavour of Home) project. The project is based on the exchange of the life stories and culinary skills of the refugees and the people from Croatia, introducing the society with the cultural, customary and social origin of refugees in Croatia, by writing down their memories of home and the smells and flavors of their cuisine.

logoFlavors of home have been researched and written down in the last couple of years during the encounters with the different people who – in the search for safety and luck – arrived from all over the world. Some of those life paths have been written down in the book of stories and recipes which will be presented at the exhibition. Through the culinary workshops, public presentations of the culinary delights, making of the cookbook “Okus doma” and filming of the documentary of the same name (in cooperation with Fade In), refugees talk about the reasons of their refuge.

The exhibition opening will be held at 20:30, with the tasting of various dishes jointly cooked by collectives Okus doma (Zagreb) and Food not Bombs (Rijeka) on a workshop that will take place from 11:00 to 17:00.
