Urban person connected and trapped under sockets and plugs
Galerija, Rijeka May 16 – June 10 2014
Drugo more is proud to present “RE:situacija copy.psd”, an exhibition by son:DA from Maribor, Slovenia. You can join us on Thursday May 15 at 8 pm for the exhibition opening and to meet the artists.
In the exhibition, the artists Miha Horvat and Metka Golac present a series of digital prints drawn with a computer mouse and hand colored. Prints are paranoid visions of a human captured between electrical appliances and spaces that are deliberately probed to find out how they communicate with the outer world through sockets and plugs, whereas a person is connected with cables to a traumatic social environment of survival.
The works are often compared to the scenes from the film “Mon Oncle” by Jacques Tati who traps a character in a space dominated by modern technology, which makes him look absurd and helpless. The wall prints create a sacral atmosphere, although a satirical tone is present. Details such as sockets, plugs, cables or phone chargers are fetishized. People, on the other hand, are either alone, disconnected from each other or sad, sometimes hanged by the cables without which it is impossible for them to communicate.
Come and see why a simple idea such as this one can still be intriguing for the mind. The exhibition remains open until June 10th 2014.
The two members of the art alliance son:DA describe their collaboration as an alliance for discussion and dialogue that produces joint art projects with a common cause. son:DA combines the traditional and the contemporary, not only in formal visual terms by linking freehand drawing and hand-coloring to computer drawing and color fills, but also in terms of the content by displaying various degrees of technological development. Their displays are not, however, merely about drawing and documentation; but rather, as the alliance’s name suggests (the Slovene word sonda means “probe”), it is about probing the landscapes of the human mind.
The examples of artworks from the exhibition can be found here.
