Drugo more is pleased to present “Explore the City”, an exhibition by Gianfranco Mirizzi. You are welcome to join us on Thursday July 3 at 8 pm for the exhibition opening and to meet the artist.

“Explore the City”, through the use of projections, electronic art, new technology, interactive and self-generative devices (Arduino boards, LED strips, spy cameras), is a situation specific installation aiming to reflect the peculiarity of Rijeka’s public spaces in relation to general contemporary public spaces, i.e. spaces that emphasize aspects of mobility and migration, rather than permanence and dwelling.

The ephemeral nature of contemporary public spaces is also accentuated by a huge amount of electronic media that are embedded in them. The piece aims to question the way these new media are affecting the perception and use of public spaces (traditionally dominated by the medium of architecture), as well as social relations.

The installation encourages a synesthetic experience that finally stimulates the awareness of the viewer toward his/her own body, in relation to space (which is inseparable from time and movement) and other bodies (a fundamental aspect of socialising).
Finally, the performative and self-generative nature of “Explore the City” requires of a viewer to complete the piece, not only with his/her own eye and mental elaboration, but also physically and materially through active participation and exploration.
