Call for Papers and Presentations: Four Faces of Omarska/Fluid States
Prijedor, Bosnia and Herzegovina 21-24 March 2015

Call for papers, performative presentations, and visiting researchers to a two-day conference Four Faces of Omarska: The Flow of Ideological (Under)Currents is now open. The deadline for proposals is 15 October 2014.

omarskaThe conference will take place in the city of Prijedor in northwestern Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Four Faces of Omarska cluster, under Fluid States, points to four constitutive layers in the history of the mining complex of Omarska, located near Prijedor. It was established in socialist Yugoslavia as a large mining enterprise organized according to the principles of socialist self-management; during the Bosnian war Serbian forces turned this mine into the largest internment and torture camp in Bosnia; after the war Omarska was privatized and sold to the steel transnational Arcelor Mittal; and in 2007, the grounds around the mine/camp were used as a film set for the Serbian First World War spectacle St. George Slays the Dragon.

The conference in March (2015) will feature lectures with these themes, by invited speakers as well as working groups, panels, papers and performative interventions gathered through this open call for participation.

The official languages of the conference are Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian and English. The translation to and from local language(s) and English will be provided.
