Chocolina is a seven-year research and performance project by the artist and performer Lina Akif, examining the housing crisis and the unequal distribution of land between the sexes and races from a feminist perspective. Over the course of seven years, Akif will try to raise the necessary funds to buy an apartment through various strategies, including posting videos on OnlyFans – @tastychocolina, as her existing strategies are no match for the current housing crisis. Akif wants to be the first woman of colour in Slovenia to buy her own home (at the moment, there are fewer than five women of colour who co-own property; their homes were either bought with a partner or inherited).
The author finds she fits all the statistical criteria that make her unable to get on the property ladder. She is a single young woman of colour who was until recently self-employed in culture and is not in line to inherit assets or property. Despite improving her economic status by working in public service on a solid salary and with regular savings and hard work, her chances of acquiring property in the next ten years are virtually non-existent, at least according to the bank.
The research stage of the project was initiated in the spring of 2024; the video performances on platform Onlyfans are available from January 2025. By placing her movable Porn-cabin into public space, Chocolina will make selected videos accessible to passers-by in the hope of raising a penny or two for the artist’s future home.
