Our faithful audience defied Rijekas burning heat and enjoyed an unusual lecture by German born, Austria-based theatre maker Claudia Bosse. Originally scheduled to take place in the newest of Rijekas theatre places, an old warehouse in the harbour district, we had to move the event to our home ground Molekula, because the warehouse was actually still in use and the work there delayed by rainy weather. Claudia started with a very personal performative presentation of her work, moving through the space, recollecting her associations of places.
The ensuing presentation with sound and moving pictures demonstrated vividly, how Claudia works: she takes away the comfortable distance between the spectator and the actor or performer and immerses her audience directly into the action. Therefore she works in spaces that are allow for and enhance such an up front an personal experience. Whether the audience finds itself outnumbered among a choir in Braunschweig or passes by speaker-carrying performers on the streets of Vienna, Claudia Bosses work is always political. Her latest work in Tunis featured performers with speakers attached to their bodies provoked fierce political debate on the spot causing the performers to intervene and calm down members of the audience.
Her current work “Dominant Powers – what is to be done then” New Zagreb can be seen on June 30th, July 1st and 2nd, 20.30h at the Museum for contemporary art Zagreb, as well as her Installation biographical landscapes/art transfer on the same dates between 10-14h.
