“All play means something.”
― Johan Huizinga, Homo Ludens: A Study of the Play-Element in Culture
Drugo more is pleased to present “Weird Science”, an exhibition by Radiona, Zagreb. You are invited to join us on Monday Jun 16 at 8 pm for the exhibition opening and to meet the artists. The exhibition remains open until Jun 21.
The exhibition will feature the collaborative workings of both artists and scientists who extract and utilise information retrieved from artistic, electronic and biological fields. Consequently, the variety of work shown includes: music instruments, interactive robot installations, hacked toys and hacked appliances. The recent intermedia and new media production is selected by Radiona, the association that promotes DIY (do-it-yourself) and DIWO (do-it-with-others) culture in Croatia and worldwide.
Inspired by the industrial legacy of Rijeka, the artists will exhibit interactive sound installations made from bio art, i.e. from algae and bacteria and connect them to appliances that run on electrical power. This will generate a new playing zone where technology and nature merge, fusing biology to electronics, chemistry to engineering, and sound art with bio art.
The exhibition draws a landscape for homo ludens raised on open source culture and technology. Where does he play? In his kitchen, in his garage, in a gallery…?
